New Natural Alternatives to HRT March 31, 2009 J. Morrison (London) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I actually bought this copy for a friend. However, I do own a copy and live by it. It is my bible! It is written in such clear and helpful language, and if followed really does reduce the symptons of menopause.
Every pre-menopausal women should be bought a copy.
To HRT or not to HRT? February 3, 2009 Wendy Green (Co. Durham, UK) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This book is most definitely anti-HRT. Having myself gone through the menopause without using HRT, I agree with much of what Dr. Glenville says. However, I think women should be given unbiased information, so that they can make an informed decision. Yes, there is a small increased risk of certain diseases - 8 more cases of breast cancer, 7 more heart attacks, 8 more strokes and 8 more blood clots on the lung per year, per 10,000 women. But, the fact remains that some women suffer extreme menopausal symptoms and only find relief with HRT. My advice is try the natural alternatives first - a balanced diet with plenty of isoflavone - rich foods and/or natural supplements like red clover or black cohosh, along with plenty of exercise. If none of these steps help, and your symptoms are affecting your quality of life, then HRT may be the answer, bearing in mind that, according to the experts, if you are under 60 years of age, the benefits outweigh the risks.
Helpful, informative book November 5, 2003 M.S.45 (England) 49 out of 50 found this review helpful
A well-written book - knowledgeable without being overly scientific. The pages are pristine white and not too densely printed, easy to read and assimilate.Ms Glenville has a good writing style which makes you keep reading. I particularly like the 'Natural Alternatives to HRT' section, which offers practical and simple advice. The 'How to control your weight and your moods' section should be required reading for everyone! Very helpful. I went on to a programme of vitamin/minerals and herbal supplements when I read this 2 months ago. Now I feel 100% better.
